Big Brothers Big Sisters of York and Adams Counties is very glad to be a partner agency of United Way of York County and the United Way of Adams County.  Through an allocations panel that makes recommendations to the Board of United Way, we received support from the Community Fund in 2008.  For information on how you can "Live United" with the United Way, click here.

The following is taken from the United Way of York County website.  Please http://www.unitedway-york.org for more information!

"For over 85 years, United Way of York County has worked in our community to improve people’s lives. In 1921, a group of community leaders founded The York Welfare Federation to raise money to establish a community fund to support charitable organizations. These leaders recognized that a community fund requires the efforts of everyone to advance the common good.  That first campaign raised $74,000 and assisted 17 York County health and human-service agencies.

Over the years, the name of our organization has changed from The York Welfare Federation to United Fund to United Community Services of York County and, finally, United Way of York County; the mission, however, of raising community funds to meet the growing and changing needs of people living in York County, has remained the same.

The Mission of United Way of York County
To improve people’s lives by building a strong community through cultivating financial generosity, volunteerism and civic engagement."
